My dear Em,

What if you could see it from a different angle? What if this person loved you so much, that they willingly took on the role of a callous, devious individual, just so you could heal and grow? What if they knew that in order for you to spread your wings, open your heart, and sing the song that only you can sing, they had to treat you in such a horrible way?

We may not choose our circumstances, but we always have the opportunity to choose how we respond to them. We come closer and closer to knowing God everytime we choose LOVE, even in our deepest hurts.

Trust me, dear Em, it took me YEARS to even be willing to see the hurt I've experienced at the hands of others in a different light. Especially the pain inflicted by those I worked my ass off for and those I thought were my friends. But, now. Now, I see the gift. The underlying love that was present in their soul to help me get here. Because of them, I am really learning to love myself. And that is the most amazing gift.

Will you choose to open your heart and share your beauty with so many hurting souls, or will you choose to close yourself off? We need your heart, Em. Share yourself. Share the beauty and love that is YOU. And when you are hurt again, please know that you'll NEVER cry alone.

Life is perfect for me now - in this moment - and I truly believe that it will be "perfect" forever. But, there are times that I think about the past and how people have taken advantage of my heart, of my friendship and it still hurts. I put my trust in someone and they stole a piece of me. They go on living never knowing, never feeling remorse... or maybe just never caring that I shared my light with them and they trampled all over it. I know I shouldn't care, but I wish I could take it all back and give it to someone who truly deserves my attention, my heart, my goodness. I wonder how people can be so blind to the hurt they've caused... think they can use someone's affection or friendship like a Starbuck's paper napkin -- wipe their face and toss it in the trash. What is hard to accept is that I trusted a friend ...not a lover, a friend -- a friend that knew my weaknesses, knew my pain and they set out and accompished causing me more of the same pain I was still healing from. Even when I said, "Don't do this to me... don't use me", they did.

Tell me Lisa... were they ever really a friend?
