Choice, Death, Support, letting go

I just wanted to write that. :)

Several people from my past have birthdays today.

Thinking about them makes me happy. They were people that definitely enriched my life. I am grateful for their friendship.

And yet I am sad that I no longer speak with any one of them on a regular basis. But like I discovered today, I can pick up right where we left off.

With all but one.

And that just blows for me.

People come and go. I get that.

And yet you know that I totally suck at letting go.

And here’s the epiphany… Read more»

Are We Missing the Point?

Choice, Love

The following post includes a 9/11 call of a Texas woman who admits to killing her two autistic children. It may be disturbing to some readers, so I wanted to warn you accordingly.

This audio showed up in my Facebook stream the other day and of course, I saw the usual (and expected) comments of horrified mothers and fathers.

I had a different reaction. Read more»

VIDEO – Rachel Maddow Show: Be afraid, white people! The black people are coming for you!

Politics, Racism, Videos, fear

I’ve been looking for a way to share this clip with you for several days. Thanks to the folks at The Political Carnival* for making it easy.

I’d never seen Rachel Maddow’s show before. I actually do not watch the news on purpose, so the Shirley Sherrod scandal was “old news” by the time I’d heard about it.

What Rachel points out in the video is how white people are being manipulated for political gain. Day after day, you are being given a multitude of reasons to be afraid. Afraid that someone, mainly (and conveniently) black people are taking away what belongs to YOU.

It’s not a new strategy.

What gets me is that it still works. Read more»

Well..

Who the hell knew that I would end July on such a high note?

Last week, I was invited by my TwitterBud, Frank Dickinson @ FrankDickinson.me to write a guest post for his blog.

Now, you know my usual reaction.

FREAK OUT.

But Miss Fear and I had a conversation and the post got written.

And I had a lot of fun doing it.

Come show Frank so love and help me celebrate the first of many(I hope) guest posts.

Here’s the link: When the fuck does it get easier?

Love YOU! Thanks for loving me this far. I so appreciate you.

2500 words, Choice, Freedom, writing

I wrote this post in response to the Day 5 challenge of a program I participated in called “Creating Your Irresistible Presence”. The program was created by the irresistible Sarah Robinson of Escaping-Mediocrity.com. Today’s challenge was issued by Reese Spykerman of Design by Reese. It’s a long one (1200+words) and one that took me 23 days to post.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Today, day 5 of the program I’m supposed to look back on my life.

To rediscover me before the world told me “to take it down a notch or be quiet or stop chattering away so much or get your nose out of so many books or stop being so sensitive.”

The me I was before “society decided to suffocate the light within”.

I didn’t know what to do to move forward with this exercise.

So when in doubt, blog. :)

The disturbing thing for me as I read the post was this:  Society decided to suffocate me before I got here. Read more»
