Just what you need
It’s been another interesting day.
Since yesterday’s post about the contest, the feeling that I’m going to vomit has been non-stop. (Along with the nagging question, “Yeah–what were you thinking, dumbass?)
(crickets)
When I got up this morning to do my morning pages (a phenomenal ritual from The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron), I turned to week 10 and the first word on the page was…
Fear.
Yep.
Right there looking me in the face.
It was the Universe reminding me that I committed to having a face-to-face conversation with my fear each day this month. (I’ll be writing more about that later.)
A few hours later, I was having my (almost) daily conversation with Susan when the panic began to set in again. Just as we hung up, this note popped up on Facebook from my college roomie in response to my update about looking fear in the face:
just another step in the complete unmasking of Lisa…you are doing great!
I started breathing again. (Thanks, Pam.)
Then, I went over to Journey to Blissville to see what my Sistah Tex was up to. Want to know what jumped out from her site in her blog roll?
When is Doubt, Blog.
Guess, it was time to write, huh?
And then, my favorite magazine showed up in today’s mail. And I turned to an article by Tama J. Kieves, entitled “Your Divine Assignment: Doing the Work You Love.”
She writes,
I finally had to see my vulnerability as a commitment to a bigger life.
Whoa.
That summed it up in a nutshell. That’s really what I committed to when I decided to start my own business.
In the past, I would have overlooked these signs. Because I have opened myself to seeing connections, I know that the Universe is speaking to me all the time.
I just need to LISTEN.
In a matter of a few hours, the Universe reminded me that I could indeed be scared but that I was supported, loved and without a doubt, on the right track.
Aaaaaaahhhhhhh……………….

I invite you today to stay open to whatever shows up as the possibility that Source is speaking to you. You just might find, it’s just what you need.

You are so brave! Thank you for doing this as it helps all of us!
As you know all too well, sometimes being brave is just getting out of bed each day. Big hugs to you, Coach Iyabo, for holding my hand when I was so ready to give up. I love you!
Thanks for sharing your raw emotions and feelings of vulnerability. That takes a lot of guts! So does putting yourself in a blog contest.
Like the quote too. You get a vote from me!
Welcome, Val! Thank you so much. I really never expected to attract people I didn’t know to this blog and it’s been a really great lesson that sometimes what you fear most could be the one thing that helps another step into their own greatness. Who knew vulnerability could bring me new, amazing connections? I feel so blessed!
You know how you feel about the blog contest? (I voted yesterday!) That is how I feel about entering Oprah’s Host Your Own Show! I am chock full of angst but I feel I HAVE to do it.
Here’s to both of us facing the fear and the angst!
Aren't fear of success and fear of failure, opposite sides of the same coin. So, I feel that looking at both sides of this coin is valuable. Seeking to understand what each means to us helps us understand our attitude toward each of them.
Some people don’t ‘go for it’ because of fear of failure. But I tend to believe we don’t make our next move because of fear of SUCCESS. Just maybe you are ready to make the leap and reap your rewards!
One fabulous way to release those ingrained fear is through EFT, emotional freedom technique. I use it on my coaching clients and have had a huge success rate.
You’re certainly not alone, fear is a huge factor standing between us and our goals, and I agree that it may be a fear of success. What does success mean to you? do you have a belief system that is thwarting success? When you look deep into the eyes of success what do you see? Do you see yourself working 60-70 hrs a week in order to be successful? Do you feel you will lose a part of yourself by being successful? Limiting beliefs or the extorted beliefs surrounding success could be your resistance. Thanks so much for bringing FEAR into the picture, as so many of us have to face it in order to achieve our goals!
And you are so loved!!!
Thanks, Maryann
Wow–I am just blown away at the love.
@Tex–gurl, I saw that OWN contest and I have been waiting 25 years to replace Oprah! I am so incredibly proud of you for jumping in with both feet! I expect to be one of your first guests.
(Thanks for the vote)
@Pam & @Raman–Fear of failure and fear of success is something I am beginning to see differently. Check out Brene Brown's site at http://www.brenebrown.com She has been doing research around shame that sheds a different light on this. If I*succeed* maybe they wont like me and if I fail, they will all laugh and not want to be around me. At the end of the day, it may be that we are really afraid of the connection we will lose in either case. Great points that got me thinking.
@Maryann–WELCOME! I know a little about EFT and have heard rave reviews but never seem to "get it". I would LOVE to connect around this topic some more, so I hope you'll come back and share more of your wonderful success stories. We are all open to learning here.
Perhaps you'll become a guest blogger??? (not so subtle invite, huh?)
