How a Pole Dancin’ pig re-launched my business
I’m sure you are scratching your head but the post does have a point.
You see, earlier this week, I had the privilege of meeting Catherine Caine of BeAwesomeOnline.com. She provides “website advice for delightful weirdos.”
Catherine is going to help me create a new brand online. One that reflects who I have become since launching Lisa-Unmasked to (ahem) super-stardom. ?
I told her about my fellow “fame hogs”, hiding out in plain sight on my blog, Twitter and Facebook. This motley crew of writers, coaches, designers, and yogis, who so desperately need to be seen but are still afraid of really showing up BIG.
Yes, YOU.
After my call with Catherine, I began to wonder how I might do more to help YOU come out of hiding.
Now, I’m sure there was a time I would have taken offense at being considered a “delightful weirdo” but now I can revel in it. With each passing day I am more aware that my so-called “quirks” are really strengths, especially as it relates to attracting my perfect peeps in business. The stuff I was so afraid of sharing with you is what really keeps bringing you back to the blog.
So, I was sharing this thought with my mastermind group today as well as my experience with Catherine. Somehow during the conversation, I also shared with them my secret wish to learn pole dancing. Quick as a whip, my coach, Julia, came up with the image of me as the fame hog trying to hide behind a stripper pole. You can imagine where it went from there.
ROTFLMAO.
So not only am I a “delightful weirdo” but a pole dancing, strip-teasin’, coach, writer, and fame hog as well!
You all know I didn’t get to this admission overnight.
It’s been a journey. One that I am so grateful (and humbled) that you are sharing with me.
Many of you are trying to get to this place. That place where you can proudly say, “THIS IS ME” and not be attached to the reactions you may or may not receive (especially in your business)
I have been floored at the depth of the comments on this blog especially in the past several weeks. The love, the honesty, the “fears” that are shared in this sacred space, remind me that we all need a place to be heard, without judgment. A place where you can “practice” being a pole dancing, strippin’ fame hog and be surrounded by love.
I want to give that to you. Soon, I’ll be asking you how I can do that.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with a new reader personally. A brilliant, vibrant and wise soul, who despite her larger-than-life persona on the phone and her website, was still a bit afraid to really “come out” as ALL she is.
Not anymore. (Yay!)
So in the comments today, let me know what kind of support you’d like to help you come out of hiding. Group coaching? An ecourse? 1-1 support. An Italian retreat? ? It’s your turn to TELL ME what you need. (And please share this with your fellow closet fame hogs. What do they wish they had in terms of support?)
Before you do, I just want to share something with you. A lot of what stops you from embracing and flaunting your delightful weirdness is the fear of what other people will think. You know, O.P.O. (other people’s opinions.)
So, in just-in-time, Universe fashion, I was led to this song today (Thanks Sandy Grason!) Called the “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles, I see it as the theme song for letting go of what “they” think because you have finally stopped making them the king of ANYTHING as it relates to how you live YOUR life.
Are you ready?
Bring out your inner Miss Piggy and let’s rock this thing called LIFE!!!
Lyrics:
Keep drinking coffee, stare me down across the table
While I look outside
So many things I’d say if only I were able
But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass by
You’ve got opinions, man
We’re all entitled to ‘em, but I never asked
So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste anymore of mine
And get out of here fast
I hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning
There’s no one here to save
Who cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything?
You sound so innocent, all full of good intent
Swear you know best
But you expect me to jump up on board with you
And ride off into your delusional sunset
I’m not the one who’s lost with no direction
But you’ll never see You’re so busy making maps with my name on them in all caps
You got the talking down, just not the listening
(chorus)
All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy
While I just hurt and hide
Waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decide
(chorus)
Let me hold your crown, babe.

Lisa, I used to work at a studio that taught pole dancing and if you like I can send you some videos and maybe even a gift card for a free class!
Well, phooey. I wasn't quite done, but my words got posted anyway. Another way to make sure I don't hide? Even the computer is in on it! LOL
Just wanted to say thanks, Lisa, for a good post and good stuff to think about. Loved the musical support — the anthem of the Nation of Fame Hogs!
Italy, huh? So does your whisperer have a sexy accent to boot? LOL!
A big shout out to Wendy (and apparently your computer) for coaxing you out of the closet. So much light, so much to say and share. We simply must hear your voice, Carol. Thanks for steppin' on stage.
Woo to the effin HOO! Are you serious??? Suuuweeet!
BTW…LOVE your crown tatoo. Totally regal. SO you!
Since I don’t have a place to anchor a pole just yet, I can’t do videos. Am starting with Flirty Girl fitness videos first (gotta get the lap dance down LOL!) before I find a class. The gift card would be lovely, my dear. THANK YOU.
Now, how can I help YOU, Miss Tex?
I’m casting my vote for the Italian retreat since apparently I will be learning Italian this winter. Why I have no idea — it just seems to be one of those inside whispers that won’t go away. “Learn Italian. Learn Italian.” So I’m learning Italian.
I have a good friend Wendy whose recent mission in life has been to gently and sometimes not so gently nudge me into taking action steps towards my dreams. I am even calling her on a daily basis to “report in.” In other words, Wendy is helping me come out of hiding one hesitant, fearful step at a time.
That’s love. That’s friendship. Helping each other to stop hiding and allow our larger selves to be seen.
Riddle me this — does pole dancing HAVE to mean Stripping? I don't know if my fame hog is all that high on THAT. Oh crap, now I'm remember that summer with the boyfriend who loved going to the nudist camps….sigh. yeah.
Okay. i want a retreat. on the water. where it's cool. and we can yoga (and you can strip and pole dance if you want). I'm thinking belly dancing lessons, hand prints, playing in nature and lots of laughing and thinking and changing the world. That's what I want. yeah.

Love this. love you. mean it
You have lived quite the interesting life, Miss Peggie.
The pig has a corset on, too (thanks Catherine for that visual). Clearly it is way too tight for the delightful weirdo she is, so yes, stripping off that thing is a part of the plan. (Is there a more fun way to take off all the crap that is weighing us down and keeping us bound?)
But I'll give you a choice: strip or dance, baby. you don't have to do both. *wink*
#mynaggingbffmakesmelaugh
I'm voting for the Italian Retreat, 'Eat, Pray, Love' style with tons of food. Gotta feed those hogs! I'm leaving the corset at home, tho.
@Julia – So as my most supportive coach and friend, are you saying you want to plan this retreat with me? Hmmm???? Not sure we can get a corset through customs without too many questions, but hey, I'd be up for some interesting conversation. LOL! Alright, you can leave the corset at home.
@Linda–Welcome, my dear! So glad you've joined the party and my own special band of "delightful weirdos". Pole is optional.
I think what is so interesting about your blog is that you have allowed us into your life as you work toward your "true path." I applaud you for stepping out there, even when it doesn't feel clear. So many of us need what you know TODAY and aren't interested in you being "perfect" or having it all together. As you keep sharing yourself, more indeed will be revealed.
In the meantime, we'll be here cheering you on every step of the way.
Lisa,
Wow, I love the song – though I don't relate to it being a specific person telling me who or what to be, more the massive "THEY." I'm working hard to know myself so well that it doesn't matter what others think of me or anything I do.
I love what you have to say in this post – guess I'll join your group of "delightful weirdos" – ;->. I too am working my way toward my true path, without a clear idea of what that is/will be. I do know I want to help others, by sharing my experience. I think it will become clear. More will be revealed.
Linda
Here’s to coming out of hiding girl!!!! xoxoxox
@Lee – Cheers, darling! Thanks for your part in it. Your birthday wish allowed me to start connecting with more people online. THANK YOU! xoxoxo
Lisa, you make me smile. Loved the song. There are definitely some people I’d like to sing it to
And the visual image in my brain of a pole-dancing fame hog … belly laugh for sure. thanks
Jeanne,
Welcome to my blog! Just honored to welcome you to the Lisa-Unmasked family of closet fame hogs. Oink, oink
So glad you got a belly laugh from the visual. People have really connected with it. There has too be some way for me to bring it to life.
Thank you so much for trusting yourself and reaching out to me. Big hugs!
