10 Things I Learned on Twitter Tonight
I’m scared to death.
I’m amazed at the number of times I hear that from entrepreneurs and every day people alike.
Everyday.
I just got off a live Twitter chat hosted by my mentor, ElizabethPW. I’ve been following her for most of the year (although I was introduced to her work over 3 years ago) and am really enjoying the connections that I am making in her community.
But I was still shocked to hear from this most awesome group that fear sometimes gets in their way, too.
Wow.
It appears that no matter how much money you make, no matter how many Twitter followers you have, or no matter how many times you’ve actually succeeded in your business, fear is taking up space in the closet as well.
It’s great to know I’m not alone.
And neither are you.
(Read that again)
Neither are you.
No matter what it is that you want to go after, someone has been right where you are today.
And trust me, they were scared.
Sh**less.
All they did, was take a step.
Then another.
And then another.
They kept moving toward their goal.
Even when they were afraid.
So, if there is something you want, a dream you’d really like to go after, simply take the next step. NOW. As you do, I hope these tips will come in handy. This is the wisdom I picked up from tonight’s chat along with lessons in my own journey:
- Accept that things may not (more often than not) work out as you planned. BE FLEXIBLE.
- When things work, PAY ATTENTION.
- When things don’t work. PAY ATTENTION and ADJUST.
- Accept that taking risks is a part of evolving as a human being. (The whole reason you are here) MAKE FRIENDS WITH FEAR.
- People are always going to laugh at you, criticize and condemn you. (Change is scary to people). BECOME YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND.
- You don’t have to do it alone. ASK FOR HELP.
- You don’t have to always know what you are doing. TRUST YOURSELF.
- Everything is easier with a little U2 playing in the background. In other words, MAKE IT FUN.
- The only regret you’ll have is not going after your dreams. In Nike’s words, JUST DO IT.
- Rinse and repeat.

(Isn’t it amazing the stuff you can learn on Twitter
)

Go Lisa, Go Lisa, Go Lisa!
I took that big first step last week … and ElizabethPW published it on her blog. I did it completely assbackwards! First blog post ever on a highly regarded and well followed blog — and not my own online for folks to see. OY.
So, I’m reassuring you that I’m here to be scared with you, to support you, to encourage you and high five you.
PS: #10 made me laugh out loud!
I wanna be you when I grow up!
Thanks for stopping by, Lori. I am so proud of you for jumping in assbackwards on EPW’s blog. That took guts! And think of all the new people you’ve inspired because you took a step forward..in fear. YOU TOTALLY ROCK, SiSTAR!
Lisa,
you are so spot on!
This is so true and yet so few people do it!
I do remember what you taught me yesterday: You put my fear right under my nose and then made me turn around and see what was on the other side.
Well what’s on the other side is where I am at now and much better than living with my fear.
Lesson? Fear might help you readjust sometimes, but do not live in fear, it’s an ugly place.
Fear can indeed be an ugly place. Thanks to you, Louise, I could really see that as long as I remain grounded in the present moment, I have all I need right now. Fear became smaller, in the present. I realized by watching you that what you did was take back your power from the fear place and use that power right here, right now to move you forward.
Thanks for the lesson.
love you. this is awesome and so true. was dreaming about ways to overcome fear so it’s the air girl!
Love you back. I sense that you are making some pretty significant changes in your life and biz and fear is trying to move in without paying any freakin’ rent! Keep trusting yourself, Peggie and know that you’ve got a sister supporting you every step of the way.
